Halloween.

Happy Halloween! This year I dressed up as Miss Rachel Berry from Glee. Do you see the resemblance?
And, I had so much fun Thursday night dancing it up with my RUF girls. Aren't they the cutest? I sure think they are.
I wanted to find a boy that could be the Finn to my Rachel, but no such luck.

Redesigned.

Moxy Creative House redesigned 10 classic (to some people) movie posters. I heart them.
If I could vote for more posters for them to redesign I would choose Good Will Hunting, You've Got Mail, and Clueless. All of those movies have their own fabulous unique styling. What would you choose?

Do you Etsy?

Do you Etsy? Yes, it can be a verb. I love the idea of buying handmade items. First, it is encouraging to the craftsman and gives them a way to make a living. Second, handmade items tend to be so unique and one of a kind. Third, I love the story that usually accompanies something handmade. The Etsy headquarters (pictured above) are decorated and furnished totally with handmade items. Working there seems like it would be a place where each day I would leave inspired to hand make everything for my home. And, since I really want to be an Interior Designer who is also a crafts(wo)man (and works in the Art Department of film and television, duh) I am simply in awe of what people can make with their design eye and own two hands. Happy making!

LOVE.

I mean who doesn't love a patterned couch, chandelier, wall collage,
lime green lamp, and tulips?
I am especially obsessed with the green and navy striped American flag.
Swoon.

Discipline of Remembrance.

Lately I have been hearing and thinking a lot about the discipline of remembrance. Basically, the act of remembering when and that God has done good things. I feel like in this fast world that we live in that remembering goes against our rhythm and everything the world tells us of how to live life, because it requires slowing down and looking back. My nature is to move fast, be proactive, and look forward. This past weekend I met my first nephew, baby Joel. As I held him, watched him sleep, laid him in the fall leaves and took pictures of him, I kept thinking about how badly I want him to develop the discipline of remembrance, to go through hard things and still know deep in his soul that God is good. I mean, I really don't want baby Joel to go through any hard seasons of life, but I know that is not a part of God's promises. Because, God promises we will suffer, but also that He is good. I love that about God and I hope baby Joel does one day too.

Town and Country.

This weekend I am going to Virginia to meet my new nephew. (Check out his adorable blog.) Virginia in the fall reminds me of the Town and Country look, which is one of my favorite styles. It is so preppy, the colors are beautiful and rich, and there are various textures that are so fabulous to the touch and eye. Charlottesville is the epitome of the Town and Country look with it's changing leaves, mountains, horse country, UVA, and football. I cannot wait to spend three days there with my family and camera!
The Wall Street Journal did a Town and Country shoot with Peter Krause (aka Adam Braverman) and some other girl, whom I don't know, and it turned out beautiful, of course.

Delicious Autumn!

Delicious autumn!  My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.  ~George Eliot

Sick.

I don't get sick. Since high school I can only think of two times that I have been really sick. One was visiting a boy in Birmingham while I was living in Knoxville and the other was Lindsay's wedding just a little over a year ago in Tulsa. Well, now there is a 3rd time I have been sick. I have the flu. And, because I don't really get sick often, I do not handle it well. This week I have gone about life as usual taking 4 Ibuprofen every few hours so that my body doesn't ache (you know, the kind of ache where your clothes hurt your skin) and head doesn't hurt. But, after some convincing I decided to call in sick to my internship and spend the day at home getting better. I thoroughly believe that if we don't slow down God will force our bodies to take a break from our fast paced rhythm of life. It is such a good reminder for me that life and work happens without me and are not dependent on me and that God is in control. I just wish it didn't come with such unpleasant side effects.

Helvetica.

Do you like fonts? I do. In fact, I have so many fonts on my computer that when I want to change fonts in Word or Pages the little pinwheel (of death) pops up and spins for quite awhile until they are all loaded. A few years ago there was a contestant on American Idol who was a font designer, I rooted for her simply because her job sounded so cool. There is even a movie about the font "Helvetica"! And, now for the ultimate font lover, you can cross stitch in Helvetica too...
And, just in case you were curious, here is the trailer for the "Helvetica" movie...

Kitchen Geography.

I feel like these precious little cutting boards circulated the blogs a few months ago, but today I was reminded of how great they are. I just love geography. Don't they make you want to chop up some veggies in the kitchen? Plus, I am going to be in all of these states within the next month. Lucky me!

Come Thou Fount.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here there by Thy great help I've come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let that grace now, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love

Our State Fair is a great State Fair!

Don't miss it, don't even be late! (Any of you catch the musical "State Fair" reference?) Don't be late is perfect for the Texas State Fair though. It is one of my favorite parts of living in Dallas! It means that fall is here, the fried food is amazing, the people watching is spectacular, usually there are some pretty fun bands, and it is just such an Americana experience. I am so glad it stays for about a month, so there is time to go more than once, or twice. Here are some sights and sounds via Shake It photos from my trip to the fair this past Saturday night with fabulous RUF girls.

FYI.

Can you tell I am very into mounted deer heads this fall season? And, by the way, I have shot a gun. And enjoy sitting in a deer stand.
